Alphonse Mucha 2021 Wall Calendar
Twelve monthly grids and full-color artwork
Alphonse Mucha’s romanticized images of women in diaphanous gowns were wildly popular at the end of the nineteenth century. His advertising posters and calendars for champagne, chocolate, biscuits, and the like featured beautiful young women in “Mucha style,” later known as art nouveau. Mucha became an overnight sensation in 1894 when his poster for a performance by actress Sarah Bernhardt hit the streets of Paris. Revolutionary in its use of pastels and its narrow shape, the poster was so popular that collectors bribed bill stickers for them or cut them down with razors. Fifteen of Mucha’s decorative prints are reproduced in this calendar.
