American painter Georgia O’Keeffe (1887– 1986) was renowned for her close-up paintings of flowers and her images of the American Southwest, works of elegant simplicity that capture the essence of her subject. Also known for her original approach to her art and her independent spirit, she preferred not to limit her paintings by interpreting them.
