Regular price $40.00

Published to accompany Boafo's first museum solo exhibition, co-presented by the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) in San Francisco and the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, Amoako Boafo: The Soul of Black Folks is a timely exploration of the varying strategies that Boafo employs to capture and celebrate the individuality, agency and self-determination of individuals from the Black diaspora. Anchored by vivid brushwork combined with faces and bodies deftly sculpted with his fingers, the artist’s painterly tectonics help convey the psychological depth of each individual. Attentive to the Black gaze the expressions range from the contemplative to the flirtatious and calmly contained. Bold accessories and fashion choices serve as a conduit for style and individuality, and complete the unique presence of each person.

Amoako Boafo, from Osu, Accra, in Ghana, studied at the Ghanatta College of Art and Design in Accra in 2007, before attending the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna.  Boafo was awarded the jury prize, Walter Koschatzky Art Award in 2017 and the STRABAG Artaward International in 2019.
