Frisson: The Richard E. Lang and Jane Lang Davis Collection
ON VIEW at SAM Downtown
Seattle collectors Richard E. Lang and Jane Lang Davis, frequent visitors to New York in the 1970s and early 1980s, collaboratively built a landmark collection of postwar art. Published on the occasion of the Friday Foundation's gift of nineteen exceptional works to the Seattle Art Museum, this volume celebrated the Langs' shared legacy and passion for thoughtful, deep and personal engagement with art - and the frisson of excitement that arises with such a connection.
Spanning 1945 through 1976, the paintings, drawings and sculptures in Frisson are mature works from pivotal moments of artistic development among some of the the most influential American and European artists of the period. Rarely seen in public since the early 1980s, these works form an inimitable archive of visionary innovation. The newly commissioned texts by leading experts in this volume gather in-depth research and fresh insights about this exemplary group of artworks.
