SAM Signs and Messengers Magnet

Regular price $6.95

Wrapped magnet with image of Signs and Messengers by artist Mark Tobey. Includes card with artist information and cellophane wrap.

Mark Tobey was an American painter. His densely structured compositions, inspired by Asian calligraphy and First Nations art, resemble Abstract expressionism, although the motives for his compositions differ philosophically from most Abstract Expressionist painters. His motivation was to "paint something felt, not something seen, to find radiance only detected in the dark, sparkling energies that, while potentially explosive, might also suggest human intellectual and spiritual enlightenment."  He was the founder of the Northwest School, and American art movement established in the Seattle area.  In 1921, he founded the art department at The Cornish School in Seattle, Washington, where he lived for most of his life until returning to Switzerland in the early 1960's.
