Olive Shell Necklace
Raven’s Corner is a small Native-owned business started in 1992. Started by Makah elder Melissa Peterson-Renault, she and her daughter Sam gather and handcraft many of the materials themselves. Melissa is a master basket weaver, and with Samantha also crafts beautiful drums, rattles, and jewelry. Sourced locally, they are a small operation that values thoughtfulness, spirit, and the preservation of tribal culture.
Olive shells are important to Makah tradition. Olive shells are harvested once a year and are very specific to the Pacific Northwest. The Olive shells in this jewelry are harvested from Hobuck Beach.
